Customize Desktop Pilot’s Throttle Box with a Printable STL File

If you’re a flight sim pilot, you know that having the right hardware is key to an immersive flying experience. That’s where Desktop Pilot’s Throttle Box comes in – a customizable throttle quadrant that takes your flight sim setup to the next level. Whether you’re playing Microsoft Flight Simulator or X-plane, our throttle box provides the ultimate control over your virtual cockpit, allowing you to adjust your throttle, propeller pitch, and fuel mixture with ease. This makes for a more realistic flying experience that truly immerses you in the world of aviation.

But what sets Desktop Pilot’s Throttle Box apart from other flight sim hardware? Our product is designed to be fully customizable. You can switch knob positions to match the setup on the aircraft you’re simulating, and even 3D print and install custom knobs to suit your preferences. In this article, we’ll dive into the features of Desktop Pilot’s Throttle Box and explore how its customizable design and printable STL file options can enhance your flight sim experience. Please note that starting from July 2023, the STL file for customizing the throttle box with the carb heat knob will no longer be compatible due to the use of hot-glued parts.

Desktop Pilot’s Knobs are Fully Customizable

Desktop Pilot’s Throttle Box features three push-pull slider controls, each with a different colored knob – black for the throttle, blue for the propeller, and red for the mixture. But what if the aircraft you’re simulating doesn’t have a blue propeller knob? That’s where Desktop Pilot’s Throttle Box really stands out – it’s fully customizable.

Since not all aircraft have the same configuration, the black, blue, and red knobs on our Throttle Box are interchangeable, so you can arrange them in any way you like. Simply unfasten the set screws of each knob and fasten them back in the arrangement that matches the setup of the aircraft you’re simulating. What’s more, you can even 3D print and install custom knobs for a throttle box that perfectly suits your preferences.

3D Printing Option for Unique Knobs

If you want to take your customization to the next level, Desktop Pilot’s website offers free downloadable STL files. Download our carburetor heat knob STL file that you can 3D print and use on your Desktop Pilot Throttle Box.

But what if you want a different kind of knob? No problem. Just send an email to sales@desktoppilot.com with a picture or description of the knob you want, and our engineer will design it for you.

The sky’s the limit when it comes to customizing Desktop Pilot’s Throttle Box. So download your free STL file today. If you don’t have access to a 3D printer, our files can also be printed professionally by a 3D printing service.

Instructions for Installing a Carb Heat Control Knob

1. Download and 3D print the STL file for the carburetor heat knob.

2. Attach the printed parts using glue so that it looks like the picture shown.

3. Unscrew the screws on the corners of the throttle box to remove the back cover.

4. Use a 1.5mm hex key to loosen the set screw located underneath the knobs of the throttle box. Rotate the set screw counterclockwise and remove the knobs of the throttle box. Be careful not to loosen too much and lose the set screw.

5. After removing the knobs, you will notice screws at the back of the black panel board. These screws are for the guides of each knob. Unscrew the screws of the middle guide and the throttle guide to exchange them at the front and then screw them in place.

6. Place the Carb Knob on the left rod, Throttle Knob in the middle, and Mixture Knob on the right rod for a realistic design. Tighten the set screw to hold the knobs in place, making sure the set screws are facing downwards.

7. At the back of the product, you will see the slide mount where you can adjust it to your desired location by loosening the set screw using a 1.5mm hex key and then tightening it to your preferred location using the same hex key. Make sure the Carb Knob is sticking on the guide.

8. Lastly, reattach the back cover of the throttle box and screw it back together.

Desktop Pilot’s Throttle Box is a customizable tool designed to enhance your flight simulation experience. With interchangeable knobs and a 3D printing option for custom knobs, you can create a Throttle Box that suits your needs and preferences. 1. Your products look pretty good. I’m an old retired Military/ATP/Bush/CFI and since I cannot fly anymore for age and medical reasons. I thought I would try a flight sim after trying out a friend’s setup. I used Thrustmaster pendulum rudders and yoke and their multi engine throttles worked pretty good, but I just wanted to have the feel of a little Cessna 152 so I bought your hardware after talking to some lady there. It looks pretty good but my PC with Windows 11, and Microsoft 2020 doesn’t recognize any of it. How can I get it to recognize your instruments?
