Greetings Aviation Enthusiasts and Valued Subscribers,

We’re thrilled to present the first newsletter of the year from Desktop Pilot. This edition is your guide to the necessary tools and insights for truly immersive flight experiences, all within the confines of your own personal space.

Read on to discover details about our newest product launches and how flight sim gear can help enhance your pilot training and experience.

What’s New?

Two Styles of Throttle Boxes

Desktop Pilot proudly introduces its range of throttle boxes, now available in four distinct versions. The original slider-style variant, priced at a budget-friendly $149.95, was our inaugural release and remains a popular choice. It includes the throttle, prop, and mixture controls as one option or a second option with the carb heat, throttle, and mixture.

Responding to numerous requests for a more lifelike experience mirroring real cockpit adjustments, we’ve recently unveiled the Carb Heat Vernier Throttle Quadrant and TPM Vernier Throttle Box. These new additions feature push-button release vernier controls crafted with advanced 3D printing technology and friction lock mechanisms. Notably, users can now make precise adjustments with clockwise or counterclockwise rotations. This limited-release is priced at $349, with the upcoming version set to showcase metal verniers and a price tag of $499.

For added convenience, all versions of our throttle boxes are available in bundle packs, offering comprehensive solutions for your flight simulation needs. Explore the options on our website: https://www.desktoppilot.com/product-category/bundles/.

Don’t miss the opportunity to elevate your flight simulation experience to new, realistic heights with Desktop Pilot’s innovative throttle box offerings!

What’s Coming?

At Desktop Pilot, our relentless commitment to excellence drives us to continually enhance our products, aiming to replicate the authenticity of a Cessna cockpit as closely as possible. We understand that the key to a truly immersive flight simulation experience lies in the intricate details that mimic real-world aviation.

In our ongoing pursuit of perfection, we are excited to announce the upcoming release of the next version of Desktop Pilot’s trim wheel, meticulously designed to bring you an even more realistic and responsive simulation environment. This advanced iteration will feature not only the standard trim functionality but also an added indicator, providing users with crucial visual feedback to enhance their control and precision.

To further cater to the diverse needs and preferences of our users, the next version will introduce three distinct sensitivity settings. These settings will allow pilots to customize the responsiveness of the trim wheel to suit their individual flying styles, ensuring a personalized and tailored experience that closely aligns with the nuances of actual flight.

As we embark on this journey to elevate your flight simulation encounters, rest assured that Desktop Pilot remains dedicated to pushing boundaries and setting new standards for realism in the world of home aviation simulation.

Taking Flight at Home

Home flight simulation technology has made impressive leaps forward in the past decade. We finally have home flight simulation that is remarkably realistic, offering tangible benefits to pilots seeking to refresh and maintain their skills. The choice of equipment and its setup is crucial in enhancing your proficiency in the actual cockpit. Desktop Pilot provides the most realistic flight simulation hardware at affordable prices! Here are some considerations when setting up your home simulator:

Hardware Setup Considerations

Many companies produce “flight simulator gear,” but most are more like toys for gaming. This is what sets Desktop Pilot apart as the preferred choice for your flight sim setup! Your chosen equipment should closely resemble real aircraft components to avoid potential hazards in the actual cockpit. Studies have shown that accident rates are halved in pilots who train in a realistically designed simulator where the gear mirrors the actual cockpit in look, feel, and location. Desktop Pilot excels in this area, ensuring all our hardware equipment passes the real-world pilot test. Additionally, the cost advantage is significant – imagine paying $199 per hour for a real-world plane versus the minimal cost of electricity for simulator use!

Software Choices

The Microsoft Flight Simulator program, launched in August 2020, took the flight sim community by storm. With one million unique users and over one billion digital miles flown in sixteen days, it’s an excellent choice for new simmers. However, for real-world pilots serious about training, X-Plane is recommended. Its unmatched aerodynamics and avionics logic make it superior. While there are other programs on the market, varying in sophistication, it’s crucial to understand their capabilities and limitations and incorporate this knowledge into your training.

Flight Practice Recommendations

We highly recommend pilots maintain sharp skills by using their home simulators akin to their actual flights, including full checklist usage, simulated radio calls (utilizing simulated ATC via VATSIM), and adherence to airport traffic procedures. VFR skills can be honed by practicing on the ground and transferring that experience to the aircraft.

Ensuring your simulator setup replicates your cockpit environment with the right gear and its positioning creates muscle memory and the “feel” of flying a real aircraft, turning your simulator into a safe and valuable training tool. This comprehensive approach contributes to making your next flight an even better experience.

Stay Tuned for More Updates

As we start the new year of 2024 and look ahead to the summer, Desktop Pilot will be launching even more products to make your flight simulation experience more realistic than ever. Our full flight simulator is slated for release in June 2024 and we are very excited about its launch!
